Martin Crombie

Martin is a local Driving Instructor who has lived in the Peacehaven area for the past 38 years. He is certainly a character that is well known in the area, not only for his driving tuition but in other aspects of life as well. Most notably, his involvement in the local football scene.

Martin qualified as a Driving Instructor in 2004, after deciding to change his career. He had previously spent many demanding years working in the IT sector. He decided that the feel-good factor he received from helping others learn was something he wanted to pursue on a full-time basis. This was his inspiration in wanting to become a Driving Instructor and to teach others how to drive and to get the same joys from driving that he has. This passion and enthusiasm can be seen in every lesson he teaches, as fresh today as the day he began.

Martin focuses each lesson around the individual pupil, he ensures that they are relaxed. He has an extremely calming nature which nervous pupils find reassuring. He prides himself on giving pupils the best “value for money” driver training, that is tailored to their individual needs. He ensures that a pupil spends as much of the lesson driving and gaining valuable road experience as possible.

Outside of Safe As …. Martin has enjoyed a reasonably successful footballing career, although a serious back injury limited the level he was able to sustain. He is quite proud of the fact that he has only just “hung up his boots”, not a bad achievement to still be playing until the age of 50. Martin has also dedicated many years to coaching local youngsters. Hopefully sharing his passion and knowledge of the game, many of these boys have gone on to achieve success at a good level within the game. Martin enjoys most other sports notably golf, squash and badminton.

Martin was involved in setting up parkrun in Peacehaven where he is an Event Director. This has been established since May 2017 and is growing rapidly within the community.

Martin is currently raising money for the Alzheimer's Society and is planning several fund raising activites.

Since turning 50 Martin successfully lost a massive five stone in weight and spent the time actively fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Care Support. During this time he took part in the following activities:

South Downs Way 35 mile off road Bike Challenge (Devils Dyke to Eastbourne)
Windsor Half Marathon
Sky dived from 14,000 feet over The Great Barrier Reef

Hastings Half Marathon
London Marathon
